There are plenty of reasons why the upcoming Mobile World Congress to be held in Barcelona, Spain is going to be a major event for many mobile phones companies, but for Samsung, it will also be the stage when they finally launch their own operating system, the Samsung Bada platform.

The Bada got an early unveiling last year when Samsung presented it to a crowd of developers and companies in an effort to promote the platform and entice the devs to create applications for it. As many already know, third party support for operating systems is a very important factor. Even if an OS has an online store, in the end, it is the content that matters. Nokia’s Maemo has proven that with sufficient support from devs, you can have a very successful platform even if it is relatively new.

There is no doubt that there is plenty to look forward to in the Bada. The OS will be going up against fellow newbie Maemo as well as the Android OS and Windows Mobile. Samsung would have certainly gone all out with features and new applications in order to get people to notice the new system.

Of course, having a good OS is nothing unless you have an equally good mobile phone to use it on. According to reports, the Bada will be debuting in a brand new mobile phone by Samsung. For now, the specifications on the device are still sketchy, but it has been said that it will feature a new super AMOLED touch screen. Since the phone will be going up against devices such as the Nexus One, the N900 and the iPhone, we can expect that Samsung’s new entry will come packed with impressive hardware.
