Introducing: T-Mobile Pulse Mini

Friday, February 26th, 2010

T-Mobile Pulse MiniT-Mobile has launched the Pulse Mini, thought to be the cheapest smartphone on the market currently.

As its name suggests, the handset is also small – a miniature version of the T-Mobile Pulse. The 3.5 inch touchscreen has been reduced to 2.8 inches and is no longer capacitive like the screen on the original. The screen has a 240×320 pixels resolution and support for 256k colours.

Pretty much standard nowadays on a smartphone, the Pulse Mini comes with social networking integration with live feeds from sites like Facebook and Twitter displayed on the home screen. Run on the Android 2.1 platform, there are plenty of Google apps to keep you content including Google Maps, YouTube, Google Talk, Google Search and Gmail.

There is an inbuilt 3.15-megapixel camera with LED flash and geo-tagging plus a video option. There is a second camera on the front of the Pulse Mini for making video calls.

The connection options span Wi-Fi, 3G, Bluetooth and GPS, and there is support for SMS, MMS, IM and push email. Powered by Qualcomm MSM 7225 internal processor, the features should be quick.

To round things off, there is a media player onboard the Pulse Mini for listening to music and watching videos. The 3.5mm audio connector lets you listen in private via your earphones and the YouTube app means you can stream videos onto your handset.

All in all, the Pulse Mini seems pretty good – especially considering it is likely to be available on PAYG for a mere £99. If you like the look of the Pulse Mini, it is due for release in April.

T-Mobile’s Latest Offerings Delivers the Best of High End

Monday, January 25th, 2010

Samsung Galaxy Lite i5700If you have been itching for a serious phone upgrade, T-Mobile has all the devices ready for you. Vodafone is currently taking its sweet time with the Google Nexus One (and the only other option is shipping it from the US for an extra £30), and even the N-One has some serious competition from the T-Mobile UK phone lineup.

From the bottom of the list is the Samsung Galaxy i5700 Portal (also known as the Samsung Galaxy Spica/Lite outside of the UK). This Android smart phone and its predecessor, the i7500 Galaxy will be getting firmware upgrades to version 2.0 on February. On the same tier is the BlackBerry Storm 2. This RIM made phone has been keeping a low profile since its initial launch. Anyone looking for a good business phone should look this one up.

Next on the list is the newly renamed Sony Ericsson Vizaz (formerly known as the Kurara). This is the latest in the U-series from Sony after the Satio, Aino and Yari phones. The Vizaz comes with the Symbian OS and an 8 mega pixel camera capable of 720p HD video recording.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10Moving on to the real heavy hitters; two Snapdragon powered Android phones are gracing the offerings from T-Mobile. The much anticipated Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 and HTC’s surprise super phone, HTC Bravo –which will be coming out by the end of this month. Anyone looking for a great Nexus substitute should consider the Bravo with its 2.0 OS with an overlaid Sense UI. Not only does it share similar specs with the Google phone, it also brings an extra 720p HD recording capability.

The XPERIA X10 on the other hand delivers a larger screen, and the original Android OS user interface combined with the newly developed Mindscape/Timescape UI (coincidentally, the new UI was originally named Nexus). While it lacks the HD recording capability of the Bravo, its 8 mega pixel camera comes with excellent WVGA recording capability at 30 FPS.

T-Mobile Pulse Goes on Super Sale

T-Mobile PulseHow do you know it is really Christmas? When there is an Android phone below the 100 Pound price mark!

T-Mobile is making many people merry during the holiday season by lowering the prices of all their pay-as-you-go mobile phones. This is probably a very limited holiday deal so interested buyers ought to go grab a phone of their liking as soon as possible.

With this offer, the T-Mobile Pulse stands as the cheapest Android device to date. The initial launch of the carrier-wide price-cut placed the Pulse at a few Pounds well over a hundred. The latest price cut set the price all the way down to 91.32 Pounds.

This 92 Pound device is the most price-efficient Android phone available in terms of specs per price. As we just said, it’s the cheapest Android ever.

So what do you get for the nice cheap deal? This pay-as-you-go Android phone boasts of a nice, big touch screen that is 3.5 inches wide. Pretty graphics with a resolution of 320 x 480 pixels, it also delivers some of the best resolutions for this price range. The device comes at a nice, easy to handle size of 116 x 63 x 14 mm, that’s small and slim –perfect to slip into a pocket or bag sleeve without getting in the way.

The 5 mega pixel camera is impressive for having high resolution (2592 x 1944 pixels –very printable even at 300 dpi) and autofocus capabilities; the only thing missing is LED flash.

This 3G phone supports UMTS and GSM bandwidths. For internet, you can choose between wireless LAN, HSDPA, EDGE and GPRS capabilities. The phone uses the Android 1.5 Cupcake making for a smooth and efficient mobile experience.

For a price below 100 Pounds and specs that make it a decent mid-tier smart phone, the T-Mobile Pulse definitely has its place on any Android shopper’s holiday shopping list.

T-Mobile Offers a Great Deal

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

t-mobileLOGOHere is a deal, you top up your SIM card by £10 each month, and you get unlimited text and internet access for that month. I say go for it. T-Mobile is letting subscribers sign up for this deal until January of next year and anyone would be foolish to pass this up. It’s a great deal. £10 is consumable and you get messaging and internet for free.

This deal would not work if it was just messaging alone or internet alone; you would also need a mobile phone with a web browser for this to be of any worth to you too. Oh, and do not forget, you have to be the kind of user that actually accesses the web in the first place. If you are not the kind of mobile user who accesses the web, just pass this up.

I do expect clogging on the network, with a lot of people getting disconnected all the time. Do not plan on making large downloads too since I bet the network latency will be really bad. Still, there is a lot of convenience in this deal that just stands out to me. T-Mobile announcing free internet and messaging certainly raised my eyebrows.

What does this mean for T-Mobile? Most would think that it is part of promoting the new Google Android mobile phones. Still, my argument is that people who want the android have money and rarely need to take part in deals like these. These, unlimited access offers are more to attract a new market than for retaining the existing group. Well, it is unlikely that T-Mobile is in any hot water, but they are up to something. Seems like a new T-Mobile phone is in the works somewhere; I’m expecting an announcement this Christmas or the month after.

T-Mobile Pulse: Simple at a Fraction of the Price

Monday, October 12th, 2009

t-pulseThe T-Mobile Pulse is a simple smartphone that will not offer the same experience as that of a Blackberry or an Iphone but it does offer a decent touchscreen phone at a fraction of the price.

The Design

The design is not awe-inspiring; it looks more like a typical touchscreen phone with its 3.5-inch capacitive touchscreen and tactile trackball. Its size is also pretty basic, with a body measuring 116.0 x 63.0 x 13.5 mm, and weighs 135 grams. The aforementioned touchscreen offers a pixel display of 320 x 480, with a multi-touch method of input method. In short, it is simple looking, offering nothing new or inspiring but acceptable nonetheless.

Its Functionality

As for the amount of applications it has, it lacks a significant amount functionality that is offered by other smartphones. It does run on the Android v1.5 system that connects it to a multitude of Google services like Google Maps and Google Mail. It also comes with the Media Center (for managing of media files), and MyCommunity services (for managing contacts) that add a little appeal. Aside from that, the rest of the features are mediocre at best. It comes with a standard 3.5mm audio jack, a microSD slot, some email and instant messaging support, GPS with A-GPS, Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity and a built-in 3.2 MP autofocus camera (pretty much a given in any mobile phone that considers itself as a smartphone).

The Verdict

As a whole, this offer from T-Mobile, as was initially mentioned, is simple and does not really offer anything new. What it does offer is a chance for a bargain because this touchscreen phone comes with a price tag that is lower than other mobile phones out there. It might not be the best smartphone out there but it does offer a good buy and for some, that is enough.

T Mobile To Sell Android Pulse

Monday, October 5th, 2009

t-pulse

T Mobile is now selling an Android powered mobile phone, the Pulse, for less than £200 on pay as you go, attracting a lot of attention from those who have always wanted a handset running under Android but lacked the funds.

The mobile phone, which was designed with these users who wanted a budget Android handset in mind, is now able to be acquired from the T Mobile online store.

The exact price for the Pulse mobile phone is £176.16, which may not sound like an incredibly good price for a “budget” handset, but when you consider that a Sim free version of the Hero costs upward of £400 you may just start to see the true value. If you open the phone up you will find it is in fact a Huawei U8220; and it has specs that really are very respectable when placed side by side with other Android powered mobile phones.

The device has a 3.5 inch touch screen display, boasting a 320 x 480 pixel resolution, as well as supporting both HSPA and Wi Fi connectivity. There is also inbuilt GPS navigation and a 3.2 mega pixel camera.

Although the Pulse is planned as a pay as you go mobile phone, you will have the option of signing up to a £5 per month internet package that is well worth it if you want to truly appreciate the device as being Android powered, rather than just another mobile phone.

A very reasonably priced handset and available now, the Pulse is a great idea and the perfect phone for those of you wanting to see what all the Android related fuss is about.

T-Mobile Pulse: An Andriod 1.5 Smartphone

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

t-pulseThe T-Mobile Pulse is the new Huawei Android mobile that is on its way to Europe. This new offer is a typical smartphone but should find a few people willing to give it a try, especially since it comes with a very reasonable price.

The Design

This block phone measures 116.0 x 63.0 x 13.5 mm, and has a capacitive, 3.5-inch touchscreen with a 320 x 480 pixel display. The touchscreen features the multi-touch input method, as well as a responsive accelerometer sensor for auto-rotate purposes. It also comes with tactile trackball, reminiscent of the Blackberry ones. Overall, the design is pretty plain, and is basically what one would expect a budget touchscreen phone would look like. It does not feature anything flashy or eye-catching but it is not bad to look at.

Its Functionality

In terms of how functional it is, this smartphone is an Android-powered phone that comes with a whole range of Google services like Google Maps, and Google Mail. It also comes with the Media center, which allows one to manage personal media files, and play them directly on this mobile phone. It also has MyCommunity service, which helps in managing and navigating one’s contact list. It also features a microSD (TransFlash) slot, 3.5mm audio jack, email and instant messaging support, GPS with A-GPS, WiFI access, Bluetooth connectivity, and a Built-in, 3.2-MP that can take photos of up to 2,592 x 1,944 pixels in quality.

The Verdict

Over all, the T-Mobile offer is not the best phone around. It is basic and it is adequate but for the price it is being offered, this should be one heck of a bargain. That being said, if you are in the market for a smartphone but do not have the necessary Pounds to shell out, give the T-Mobile Pulse a try; it should provide a respectable experience without breaking your wallet.

T-Mobile announces new Android phone

Friday, September 4th, 2009

t-pulseT-Mobile has just announced their third Android device, the T-Mobile Pulse, which will be the first Pay as You Go (PAYG) Android phone available. The Pulse is the first Android device released by T-Mobile that is not developed by HTC and is instead made by relatively unknown company Huawei. Huawei had been showing off an unbranded version of the handset at the Mobile World Congress earlier this year in Barcelona and there had been rumours circulating then that the company was planning a joint venture with T-Mobile.

The Pulse features the biggest screen yet to feature on an Android phone, with a 3.5” HVGA touch sensitive TFT screen with 320 x 480 resolution and over 16 million colours. The Pulse will run on 3g HSDPA and come with support for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Also featured on the phone is a 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus but which unfortunately does not appear to have a flash. Also included is a microSD slot with 2GB microSD card included to complement the 256MB on board.

The Pulse will also come with internet access available for £5 a month or £1 a day. The Pulse will be the first Android phone to feature both Media Center and MyCommunity. The Media Center allows you to choose personal media content and MyCommunity helps you keep up-to-date with contacts. The Huawei interface adopts a similar style to the one used by HTC with six homescreens that can be switched between.

The T-Mobile Pulse will be available in October for £180 exclusively with T-Mobile. The Pulse will be great news for people wishing to experience Android but who are not too keen on contracts as it is the first Android device available on Pay as You Go.

O2 may lose exclusive iPhone contract with Apple

Friday, August 7th, 2009

iphoneo2According to a report in the Financial Times the network provider O2 may be about to lose its exclusive deal with Apple to provide iPhones in the UK. The network provider which is owned by Spanish telecom company Telefonica has had the exclusive deal with Apple since 2007 and has been feeling the benefits of the highly popular touchscreen handset. Now however, it has been revealed that Apple has been in secret discussions with at least one other network provider about issuing the device.

If the deal with the unconfirmed network goes ahead O2 will still be able to ship the Apple device but on a non-exclusive basis. O2 has seen a strengthening of its UK market share since it signed the deal with Apple two years ago and no doubt will be unhappy about losing its iPhone monopoly. During this two year period O2 has shipped over 1.5 million iPhone handsets in the UK and highly value the business this generates as iPhone users typically spend more money than owners of other phone models.

When Apple initially launched the iPhone they set up exclusive deals with network providers in the UK, France and Germany, as well as the United States. O2 rival Vodafone has been overheard saying that not being able to join in the iPhone phenomenon has severely hurt their business. These exclusive contracts have not only been hurting O2’s rivals but Apple itself, who are now eager to do deals with many network providers to maximise iPhone sales. Rumours are circulating that the official contract between O2 and Apple will expire on October 9th 2009.

In related news it has been reported that even before the expiration of the O2 deal with Apple, T-Mobile are already issuing iPhones to customers. T-Mobile have reportedly been purchasing unlocked iPhone 3G’s and offering them to customers who are threatening to defect to O2 because of their exclusive contract.

T-Mobile MDA Compact V: Sophistication and Functionality in One Package

Thursday, July 30th, 2009
tmobile-mda-compact-vWhen mobile users are looking for a smartphone, they usually have high standards. They want the device to look good and perform well. There are times however, when buyers have to compromise on one or the other, but not with the new T-Mobile MDA Compact V. The MDA Compact V is a follow up to the earlier MDA Compact IV model and since it enjoyed a popular following, T-Mobile has now introduced an upgraded version.

The reason this device looks like the HTC Touch Diamond2 is because they are fundamentally the same phone, with a few tweaks done by T-Mobile. The MDA Compact V, for starters boasts of widget applications. Mobile users can add widgets of websites that they visit most onto the screen. Additionally, T-Mobile added its own instant messaging system which allows for chatting over Google Talk, AOL, MSN and Yahoo Messenger.
Many of the laudable features of the HTC device can also be found on this phone. The widescreen’s resolution affords users of optimal viewing. Webpages are rendered in outstanding colors and videos, naturally are a pleasure to watch over this screen. The MDA Compact V, after all, has 3g support, HSUPA, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity.

TouchFLO 3D is the interface utilized on this phone and as such navigation is more instinctive. There is a need for a stylus but this doesn’t pose a problem as the phone is quite responsive to slight touches. A cool feature is the zoom bar underneath the screen which allows users to zoom in on a page through the swipe of a finger.

The device is equipped with a 5MP color camera with autofocus. You can also capture videos with this phone. The music and video player is compatible with a variety of file formats so entertainment is extended. Apart from these features, you will also find many practical organisational tools incorporated into the device which will surely enhance your productivity.
