Samsung’s LG Cookie Killer: the Samsung S5600

June 28th, 2009 by Best Mobile Contracts
s5600Released in December of 2008, the LG Cookie continues to be one of the highest rated Smartphones in the market today. Critics have praised the LG Cookie’s ability to integrate an above average camera, a sleek design, a touch screen, and a high resolution display so effectively in a Smartphone. However, Samsung has been sitting on the bench long enough and has decided to step up to the plate. The Samsung S5600, together with the previously released Samsung Tocco Lite, is their answer.

Style
LG-KP500-CookieAlthough the LG Cookie may be smaller and lighter than the Samsung S5600 (Cookie: 106.5 x 55.4 x 11.9 mm; 89 g VS. S5600: 102.8 x 54.8 x 12.9 mm; 92 g), the battle of the screens has to go to the S5600. Even though the Cookie’s 3-inch screen is a bit bigger than the S5600’s (2.8 inches), the victory is awarded to Samsung’s Smartphone because of its superior graphic display. While the Cookie’s screen displays only 256K colours, the S5600 has more vivid and animate graphics because of its 16M colours used. The S5600 also has what Samsung has dubbed as the “Gesture Lock.” This feature allows users to unlock the phone by drawing a letter on the screen. The letters of the alphabet are pre-assigned to the applications of the S5600 which means the user is led to a specific application depending on the letter he draws.

Substance
The main advantage of the Samsung S5600 over the LG Cookie in terms of communication is the former’s 3G capability. Unlike the LG Cookie, the S5600 will work in 3G (HSDPA 300/1200) networks. Moreover, the S5600 has a secondary camera that allows video calling, a feature not available in the LG Cookie because of its inability to support 3G. Another S5600 advantage is its GPS capability. While the LG Cookie doesn’t have GPS support Samsung does another thing better by adding A-GPS support on its S5600.

The Samsung S5600 is rumoured to have a reasonable launch price of around £300.
