Orange Rated the Best Mobile Broadband Service Provider by YouGov

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

Orange Mobile BroadbandAfter a tough and competitive year, there is finally some good news for Orange. According to an independent survey conducted by YouGov, it was found that they were rated as the best provider for the second time with regards to quality in mobile broadband services.

The network not only came on top with its quality, but it also got the nod as an affordable (value-for-money) provider. Meanwhile, customers also selected the mobile broadband services of Orange amongst the top-9 out of the 15 categories. Their rating also involved the ease of use for a subscriber. Again, staying connected for a longer time and perfect network coverage was also responsible for their popularity amongst a considerable mass.

Recently, Orange has been taking steps for providing customers with a greater control over the mobile broadband usage. They have launched a new application, which is going to alert the users in case they are fast approaching the usage limit. They also came out with an auto monthly bill cap. This means that the customers are not going to get charged more than the £40 every month. This can be helpful for those individuals, who unintentionally find their monthly bills exceeded, mainly due to over usage of the dongle.

Asif Aziz, who is Orange’s Director of broadband, said that it was a great honor for the company to be rated as the best in the mobile network operation performance.

In April 2009, the Dongle Tracker Survey of YouGov gave the number one ranking for reliability to Orange, whereas previous year saw the networking attaining the top rank for ‘Overall Mobile Broadband Service Quality’. YouGov also selected them as the best provider with regards to mobile broadband.

Orange Introduces Google’s Mobile App

Friday, October 30th, 2009

OrangeOrange made an announcement this Wednesday that it had just signed a multi year agreement with Google, meaning that it will be the first carrier to provide the Google Mobile app to its customers. The two companies have stated that through this partnership they hope to offer easy access to geo location and search services to people on the Orange network, who will now be able to appreciate one click access to the app on the main Orange screen. There are several features for you to enjoy, including search options, the Orange portal and a number of Google services as well.

The app is going to be distributed by the network on several of their signature handsets over a period of time. To start with, Orange will include the application with all Signature Android mobile phones, and has stated that users in both France and the United Kingdom can start looking forward to receiving Google Mobile search results, such as content from Orange’s own portal. Beginning this month, mobile phones such as the HTC Tattoo will come bundled with the special features, which include Orange’s Email Wizard, making it easy for users to get going with mobile mail.

The vice president for New Growth Business for Orange, Raoul Roverato, stated; “People want easy access to the best content and services on the Web on any screen. At Orange, we have developed a range of applications that our mobile customers can directly access from their homes creen, such as Orange TV, Orange Games, My Social Place or My Social Life and the Orange mobile portal. This partnership will also let us give customers direct access to the best Google applications across a large part of our Signature portfolio, combining the strength of two leading brands to create and deliver the kind of content people want to find and use on their mobile.”

We couldn’t agree more, and will be very interested to see the service in action over the coming weeks.

Orange Trials Asda Concession

Friday, October 9th, 2009

OrangeOrange has just entered a partnership with Asda to trial Orange concessions in the company’s Supercentres, with the first outlet opening in Eastlands, Manchester, last Thursday, the 8th of October.

The arrangement gives Orange their own committed space, which will be manned by their own employees. If the rial proves a success then the concession will branch out across Asda’s other UK Supercentres, of which there are currently 30.

Sian Doyle, Orange’s director of retail, was quoted saying; “We are trialling different types of retail concessions tailored to meet the retail habits and environment of local shoppers,” adding that; “People shop at Asda two or three times a week, so the format is different to our own high street stores or the HMV concessions.”

The Eastlands Supercentre has got 7 dedicated Orange employees at present and will focus on mobile phones, laptop computers, dongles and other accessories.

Right now the Orange Asda store is stocking a smaller range of mobile phones that the company’s high street stores, with no Orange pay as you go, in order to avoid any conflict with Asda’s offerings. Sian Doyle stated that the standard £5 tariff was working out, and mobile broadband sales were going well, with upgrades also enjoying popularity amongst consumers.

Doyle said; “The store is tailored to what we think the customers will like, but we are amending it on a weekly basis as we learn more about what they want. The Eastlands store has 100,000 customers a week, so there is a lot of opportunity.”

If this takes off there will be 30 more of these stores to look forward to – right now we think it seems like a pretty good idea; however the lack of Orange pre pay handsets is a bit of a turn off.

We Bluff About Movie Quotes

Friday, October 9th, 2009

OrangeWednesdayThis is the kind of news we love to read! According to Orange, recent research revealed that almost half of Brits, (or 46%,) have told a lie about seeing a well known film in order to impress their friends.

The amusing study shows that Brits don’t seem to mind telling the truth regarding movies that they have and haven’t seen; with the most bluffed about film being the Godfather Trilogy. According to the research, one in five, (or 19%,) of people who claim to have witnessed Francis Ford Coppola’s epic picture are not telling the truth. Orange put it best, saying that this makes them “about as legitimate as the Corleone family.”

The second most lied about movie is Dirty Dancing, starring Patrick Swayze, with one in ten people claiming to have seen it – followed, in order, by the Shawshank Redemption, Rocky, and Gone With the Wind.

The study also showed that women are less likely to pretend to have seen movies that they have not; 36% of women lie, compared to 58% of men – with those residing in the north of the UK the biggest bluffers. More than half, (or 56%,) of Northerners confessed to twisting the truth over their movie knowledge, compared with only 39% of London dwellers. Brummies seem to throw off the trend, with nine out of ten, (or 91%,) claiming that they have never lied about movies they’ve seen.

Orange’s Andrew Pearcey said; “It seems many of us have told the odd white lie about the films we have and haven’t seen. Thankfully, our customers can save face, and some money, by taking advantage of our famous Orange Wednesday 2 for 1 offer – ensuring they never need miss out on a classic movie ever again.”

Good way to push Orange Wednesdays in our opinion; interesting surveys like this are what make us love mobile news.

Orange Launches UK Multimedia Store

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009

OrangeMany of you will be pleased to hear that Orange has just opened its first Multimedia Store to the public, created in the hopes of getting customers to get involved with multimedia technology.

Those of you who at this point are still stuck wondering what exactly a Multimedia Store is should know that it is more or less a revamped, beefed up Orange store. It is located in Milton Keynes and is set to feature a large 70 inch cinema styled screen, along with a funky entrance floor made of some kind of bouncy rubber. Already, I want to head down there, just for that.

The actual definition of a multimedia store is rather similar to that of a smartphone; by which I mean that it is not only very vague, but also that it is suspiciously less than definitive. Either way, the idea behind the store is to get customers engaging with multimedia technology more than they currently are.

Anyone who pays a visit to the new store today will get the chance to have a play around with the new MOTOBLUR Android operating system mobile phone, the Motorola DEXT – which is sure to please a lot of you who aren’t sure yet whether or not you actually want to buy the new handset.

The Orange Multimedia Store is a good idea, and with the bouncy entrance floor we’re willing to bet that there will be no problem luring customers inside, then keeping them entertained – however whether or not the high prices we will likely be seeing make it hard for the store to succeed remains to be seen.

Whether or not you plan on spending up big, we would suggest a visit just to experience the bounce – if you’re embarrassed about jumping around as an adult, take a young relative along; that’s what I’ll be doing.

Vegas Is Gold For Orange

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

orange-vegasThe Orange mobile phone network in the UK has announced that its pay as you go handset, the “Vegas“, is the company’s most successful Orange branded device.

Orange has sold over 100,000 of the devices since it was released back in April this year, which isn’t too shabby when you consider the fact that the handset costs £49.99 on pay as you go.

The original design manufacturing, (otherwise known as “ODM”,) touch screen mobile phone was designed by ZTE, and uses the same exact design as the Vairy, T Mobile’s own brand handset.

Francoi Mahieu, Orange’s devices director, said that T Mobile’s version of the mobile phone had not been as successful because of Orange’s price point being significantly more appealing to buyers. “The Vegas has been a phenomenal success,” Mahieu has stated.

It is no real wonder that the Vegas handset has enjoyed the tremendous success that it has when you remember that at the time it was released it was almost impossible to find a touch screen mobile phone for under £150, let alone a measly (by comparison, especially at that time,) £49.99.

Orange is of the mind that the most important thing when making handsets attractive to potential buyers is to find a feature that they desperately want and offer it to them at a reasonable price.

“The most important thing is to make attractive handsets more attractive by making them affordable.” Mahieu said, “We found a gap in the market and addressed it.”

It is fair to say that with the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS coming to Orange shortly that the carrier seems to be, at least for the moment, unstoppable.
