LG aims to enhance messaging experience with its latest mobile device, the LG GW520. This mobile phone is equipped with push technology designed for social networking whereby users are provided with push updates from their online communities. With the LG GW520, social networking enthusiasts can update their pages, share and edit their status messages and even upload pictures directly from the phone. These functions are made even easier with the phone’s slide out QWERTY keyboard (looks rather similar to the LG Prada II) for convenient typing. Social pages are certain to upload quickly with the unit’s HSDPA capability which allows for speeds of up to 7.2Mbps.
A rather clever feature of the phone is the innovative Live Square technology which LG also chose to incorporate into the phone. Live Square is a mobile wallpaper which contains faceless figures moving about. As you interact with your contacts, the figures take on the identity of whomever it is you are conversing with. This way, each of your contacts has a dedicated avatar which you can use to identify them making for a rather animated conversation.
The LG GW520 is equipped with a 3MP camera and a 2.8 inch touchscreen. The phone has photo and video editing capabilities as well as an MP3 and MPEG4 player. This phone has Java support as well as Bluetooth connectivity. Its WAP 2.0 browser should make for a satisfactory browsing and networking experience.
Whilst the LG GW520’s networking thrust is certainly a novelty, this device may face some tough competition especially as there have been a number of excellent touchscreen phones released into the market. It makes you wonder how this device will do if placed side by side with say, the HTC Touch Diamond 2. Pricing might be a key factor for users and it is looking like the LG GW520 will come with a mid-range price, although no specific details have been released just yet.
