INQ Mini 3G

INQ MiniThe INQ Mini 3G is a funky little smartphone; it comes in a very bright range of colours, giving it that fun feel. Even at the very low end of the market it will appeal to plenty of people, not only those on a budget, thanks to its friendly look and tiny, compact size.

The point of the handset seems to be to integrate a number of different social networking services in one; there are several different applications that support over the air updates, as well as quick ways to set up all your favourite social sites.

Instant Messenger, Skype and Facebook can all be found on the mobile phone right from the start. Twitter has also been added to the handset however as of yet you are unable to perform instant status updates using push technology from the home screen; something that is expected to change in the near future.

In terms of performance it seems that the INQ Mini 3G does exactly what it was designed to do without much trouble; there were a few times we noticed a second or two delay, but the battery life was better than expected and overall, for a budget smartphone, this handset is definitely an over achiever.

When we look at the wide range of colours available, the very successful integration of various different social networking services and the low end price tag, the INQ 3G Mini seems set to be the must have mobile phone for teenaged consumers, as well as those who like to constantly update their social networking status throughout the day.

As soon as push technology is paired up with Twitter on this particular handset it will definitely be the ultimate in low cost smartphones.

A Very Social Phone, the INQ Mini 3G

inq-miniFollowing from its highly successful Skypephone and multi-awarded INQ1, the Hutchison Whampoa backed mobile phone maker INQ is releasing the new Mini 3G as a social networking mobile phone that has integrated support for Twitter, Skype and Facebook as well as instant messaging and email clients.

It’s No Mini INQ

It goes to market by the end of the year together with the new QWERTY smartphone INQ Chat 3G with which it shares many features.   The INQ Mini 3G though is a lot simpler and sports a conventional candybar form like many in its class.  INQ might have misnamed it a “mini” as there’s nothing in the model to suggest it’s the smaller cousin of a more full-featured handset.  It has a 2.2” QVGA screen and a very basic 2 megapixel camera with 3G and 3.5G support.  Its media players support the popular audio and video formats except Windows Media, though there may be 3rd party apps that can do file conversion for those that can’t play in it.  There’s no WiFi or GPS to boast of but this is no showcase of a phone to begin with.

Social Networking Integration

The Mini 3G also features a unique media synchronization facility called doubleTwist that enables you to sync with your laptop of desktop PC for music and video files such as those in iTunes.  But its strength lies on its social networking features.  Unlike other mobile phones that have them as add-ons, the INQ Mini 3G has them fully integrated into the phone.  Using them on the fly can be a real breeze.

The candybar monoblock Mini 3G looks like any conventional mobile phone and is pocket-friendly enough at 103 x 46 x 13mm. While not a stand-out, the Mini 3G is sure to appeal to social networking crowd who wants better value on a mobile phone.  Good thing Christmas is just around the corner.

Doing Business and Social Networking with the INQ Chat 3G

Saturday, September 12th, 2009

inqchatMobile phone maker INQ has just unveiled a full QWERTY smartphone in its new INQ Chat 3G.  This seems to be the bigger brother to its Mini 3G which gets released at about the same time.  It’s also has a more upbeat technical specification that is sure to wow mobile gadget nerds looking for the coolest features in them.

Competitive Feature Set

The INQ Chat 3G, as the name suggests, supports 3G and the high speed data connectivity options for a truly fast surfing and downloading speeds over the internet.  Its 2.4” QVGA screen when powered up, displays widgets for Twitter and Facebook that gets real time updates without you going online first.  That makes social networking a real breeze. It even supports push mail for Gmail client accounts as well as instant messaging, Skype and Windows Live. Its QWERTY keypad puts it in contention with all the business smartphones out there with this same feature. Not to be outdone in the multimedia department, the Chat 3G sports a 3 megapixel camera with autofocus and a built-in GPS receiver – fairly typical for many excellent smartphones in this class and price range.  There’s ample internal memory at 128 MB that you can expand up to 8 GB using microSD memory cards.

A Great Value for the Money

The INQ Chat 3G uses its proprietary OS that is sure to account for the lower price but has all the multitasking features, robustness and versatility that other OS platforms have.  For one, it allows you to remain online and logged to your favourite social communities while doing other native tasks on the phone.  There are 3rd party applications that support Java and BREW software.

It is clear that INQ is positioning this phone as a serious corporate phone with social networking highlights but without a hefty price tag.  Scheduled to become widely available in time for Christmas, the Chat 3G is one attractive alternative in the QWERTY phone markets.

A Budget Social Networker

INQ has just released a full-featured smartphone that it calls a Twitter phone focused on the social networking crowd. Coming after its multi-awarded INQ1, the new INQ Mini 3G packs all the right features on a budget sub ₤100 phone that is nowhere near a “Mini” except its price.   Following its official launch, you can expect a slew of hands-on reviews on the net and here are some highlights from these unofficial reviews.

Value Features for Everyone

It looks like any ordinary mobile phone on the candybar form factor and feels lightweight enough to be pocket-friendly.  But what distinguishes it from the rest is its great value offering built-in apps for such popular social networking sites as Twitter and Facebook. You may even get free Skype calls with it.   It can integrate with Windows Live and synchronizes with your desktop iTunes.  The trendy social networking crowd will also love its user-replaceable and interchangeable covers that harken back to the good old days when you can have different body colors and designs on Nokia phones.

Form its moniker, the INQ Mini 3G supports 3G and high speed HSDPA so you can browse and download over the net to your heart’s content.   It even allows you to use it as a high speed modem with 3G tethering. It sports a 2.2” QVGA display and a 2 megapixel camera.

Understandably, there’s no fashionable WiFi and GPS features alright.  Not much compared with other smartphones but at its price point, you really can’t complain. But as a social networking phone, it gets the job done faster than many others costing a lot more.  The INQ Mini 3G boasts of having these social networking apps fully integrated into the phone, unlike being after-thought add-ons in others.

The new INQ Mini 3G should hit the stores anytime during the last quarter of the year.  It’s one great option to add to your Christmas shopping list.

Another Fine Business Phone Alternative form INQ – the Chat 3G

First, let’s get into a bit of recent history here.  The INQ1 got the Best Handset award from the MWC last February beating the heavyweights from LG, Blackberry and Nokia. Being a market driven company, INQ has responded to 30% of INQ1 users who regularly send emails over the phone. Now, eager to capitalize on this market behavior, INQ is launching the INQ Chat 3G that uses a full QWERTY keypad and a 2.4″ QVGA landscape display positioned as a cheaper alternative to the Nokia E71.

Competitive QWERTY Features

Among its major features include home screen widgets that allow you to access Twitter and other famous social networking sites including instant messaging sites like Skype as well as push email function for Gmail. It’s “chat” branding suggests these online features are its strongest points, apart form the fact that it has 3G support to boot.

It’s not the thinnest but at a slim 114.5mm x 61.0mm x 12.8mm dimension, the INQ Chat 3G is as pocket-friendly as any QWERTY smartphone out there. It even has a generous 120MB of internal memory that can be expanded to 8GB using its microSD slot.  With a 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus and built-in GPS receiver, it’s not going to lead the camera phone pack but it’s no laggard either.

A Smartphone Alternative with Great Value

The Hutchison Whampoa based mobile phone maker INQ has set itself on a direct competition with leading smartphones with leading edge features but at a lower retail cost.  Its proprietary and competitively capable OS that enables multitasking between local apps and staying online in your favorite social networking sites is clearly a cost advantage for INQ.  That makes INQ handsets a more attractive value proposition for the smartphone market. Christmas of 2009 is certainly going to be an exciting time for people anticipating the Chat 3G.  INQ plans to market the phone in time for Christmas.

INQ announces social media phones

Wednesday, August 5th, 2009

inq-chatPhone manufacturer INQ have announced the upcoming release of two handsets geared towards the social networking consumer. The phones focus heavily on social networking services and have built-in apps for Twitter, Facebook and Skype. There is also iTunes syncing and integration with Windows Live.

INQ recognised that SMS revolutionised the way people used their phones but that this revolution could be applied to other services that usually require people to be sat at a desktop computer. While there are many phones today with these apps included or readily available to download, INQ’s intention with their phones is to make using these services as simple as sending a text.

The two new handsets, the INQ Mini 3G and the INQ Chat 3G both support HSDPA and 3G tethering. The Chat 3G features a 3.2 megapixel camera that comes with autofocus and there is also a GPS, while the Mini 3G has a 2 megapixel camera. The Mini 3G comes with a 2.4” TFT display while the Chat 3G has a slightly smaller 2.2” display. While these features may not seem much compared to some other phones around today these devices will fall into the low price category and will make use of features not normally found in this price bracket.

However, the main focus of these phones is the social networking integration which will be high class, particularly for phones in the low-end range. The OS used will allow users to switch between installed and native apps so there is no need to log out of these services to do anything else. In line with their online media functionality, both handsets will allow easy playing, downloading and streaming of online media including audio and video.

There is a built-in media player with good support although both devices fail to deliver a standard 3.5mm audio jack. The Mini 3G and Chat 3G will be of interest to social networkers and will be available in the fourth quarter.
