HTC to include 3.5mm sockets on all phones

HTCheadphoneSince the decision was made several years ago to include MP3 playback on mobile phones there has been a push to cram devices with as much multimedia capabilities as possible. This has seen then the release of phones with video playback, streaming internet video and even 3D hardware accelerated games. With the inclusion of all these features mobile phones have become more than just phones, they are games consoles and walkmans also. One of the areas that has lagged behind with many manufacturers has been headphone sockets, with many feature filled phones requiring the use of specially designed proprietary headphones. Now HTC, who have in recent months been releasing some highly innovative phones such as the Hero, but had often received criticism for their headphone sockets have decided that all their future devices will include the standard 3.5mm socket.

An HTC spokesman was quoted as saying “The vast majority of devices we launch after Hero will have a 3.5mm jack. Devices that we have already announced but that still come out after Hero will not necessarily be a part of this change.”
