It seems the successor to the popular Galaxy S smartphone is set to enjoy similar – if not better – sales success.

The Samsung Galaxy S II has just set a record for the fastest-selling smartphone in Korea, after hitting the 1 million unit sales mark in one month. This equates in terms of phones sales to “about one every three seconds”, as the guys over at Electronista point out.

The dual-core Android smartphone shipped in Korea at the end of April, and reached 100,000 unit sales in only 3 days.

Whereas the Galaxy S II hit 1 million in one month, the original Galaxy S took 70 days to hit 1 million unit sales. Samsung said this is down to the hardware enhancements of the S II, especially the 4.3 inch Super AMOLED Plus display. Other impressive features of this phone include an 8-megapixel camera with 1080p video recording capabilities, an 8.9mm frame, TouchWiz interface, Android 2.3 OS, and a dual-core 1.2GHz processor.

There are also Samsung Hubs onboard the Samsung device, including the Music Hub which is powered by 7 Digital and offers access to millions of songs, and the Social Hub for managing your hectic social life.

And of course, “overall Galaxy S II sales are likely to be larger overall given the phone’s presence in Europe and other key parts of the world.” In total, the Samsung Galaxy S II will be sold in 120 countries and on 140 operators.

The Galaxy S phone sold more than 10 million units, so it’ll be interesting to see when its successor hits this milestone.

In the UK, you can get Samsung Galaxy S II deals on all the major networks with contracts starting around £25 a month with a free handset.
