Taiwanese mobile electronics manufacture HTC has gone a long way since its early days as a developer of pocket PC devices. Now, HTC is one of the leading brands among mobile phone enthusiasts and is known in the tech community as one of the paragons of the Google Android operating system.

According to recent reports, HTC’s income last 2009 was a whooping £800 million. This announcement has beaten out the previous expectations of HTC itself which predicted sales profits of about £600 to £700 million.

The figures are big, but not surprising. For quite some time now, HTC devices have been among the most talked about and highly demanded by the industry. By combining excellent hardware with features, HTC’s high end smart phones pretty much led the way in terms of innovation and quality. Last year, devices such as the Android smart phone HTC Hero and the only Windows Mobile device on a capacitive smart screen, the HTC HD2, pretty much set the standard for what is acceptable in a modern day device.

This year also started out with a major offering device made by HTC, Google’s Nexus One. While the device did not carry the HTC brand name, it was HTC that manufactured the first Google phone –reminiscent of HTC producing the first Android device, the HTC Dream.

April will see the launch of two more HTC Android devices, the Desire and the Legend. HTC has also confirmed that it is working on a new smart phone that will be running the upcoming Windows Phone 7 mobile platform.

2011 will see HTC defending its patents against Cupertino based Apple which has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against HTC regarding 20 various hardware and software technologies.
