For those who missed out on the news, the Nexus One Android smart phone is the very first Google branded handset. Basically, the device is how Google visualizes the quintessential Android smart phone (since it was they who developed the mobile platform in the first place). The device was successfully launched early last January but failed to generate sufficient sales due to the device being only available in the Google Online Store.
Vodafone UK and Google are now taking a new approach with getting the phone sold in the UK. Instead of having to refer customers to obtain the device from the Google website, Vodafone customers will be able to get their devices directly from the UK based network operator. Officially, the device is now available for pre-orders and the first batch of deliveries is expected to arrive by the 5th of May.
The device comes packed with a 3.7 inch AMOLED touch screen, a 5 mega pixel camera and a 1GHz Snapdragon processor –the strapping of a complete high end smart phone (until the new dual core CPUs for mobile start coming out anyway). Aside from the impressive hardware, the handset also packs the latest Android operating system along with a few extra features.
Google’s Nexus One also comes with an advanced voice recognition system that uses a unique voice filtering technology. Yes, this device can easily understand the words that you speak to an extent that Google even introduced a new voice to text functionality available only on this device.
Of course, being an Android handset, the Nexus One will also be getting the newly launched Google Maps sat nav application in order to turn the device from a phone to a GPS tool for your car.
