Eventually, it will be news when Apple is not being sued.
Joking aside, it looks like the big bad iGiant just stepped over a line as SmartPhone Technologies has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Apple and several other mobile device manufacturers. Here is a full roster of all companies being sued: “Research In Motion Corporation, Research in Motion Ltd., Samsung Electronics Co. LTD., Samsung Electronics America, Inc., Samsung Telecommunications America LLC, Sanyo Electric Co., Ltd., Sanyo Electronic Device (U.S.A.), Inc., LG Electronics, Inc., LG Electronics USA, Inc., Motorola, Inc., Apple, Inc., Pantech Wireless, Inc., Insight Enterprises, Inc., AT&T Inc. and AT&T Mobility LLC.”
The lawsuit was filed last March 3 at the Texas Eastern Court in Collin County with Judge Leonard Davis presiding over the case. Thomas John Ward, Jr. will be representing SmartPhone Technologies.
The lawsuit, much like the one filed by Apple against HTC, covers more than just one patent. No exact details have been revealed, but the patents in question are those that concern application of Bluetooth connectivity, email syncing and bandwidth conservation.
While SmartPhone Technologies is expecting to get compensation from all the above mentioned companies, the lawsuit will be focused mainly on Apple. This is because it is the Apple iPhone that has been using the allegedly stolen technology.
Should this lawsuit push through with negative results for Apple, not only will their iPhone device be put into jeopardy, but also their upcoming iPhone 4G and possibly the iPad tablet should these other devices also share the same “stolen” features used in the original iPhone.
Looks like Apple will be fending off two cases this time as it continues its own lawsuit against Taiwanese mobile device manufacturer HTC.
