Sony is not granting any Christmas wishes this year by putting in a donut on the upcoming XPERIA X10. Kidding aside, the upcoming Snapdragon powered 3G Android smart phone will be without the latest 2.0 Éclair operating system. Instead, the default OS of the X10 will the old Google Android 1.6 Donut. Regardless, us fans still want to see the latest Android on a 1 GHz processor. Rumors pointing to the Éclair being used on the latest XPERIA phone surfaced right after Sony Ericsson announced that they will cease using the Windows Mobile platform after the XPERIA X2. Initial rumors that Sony will turn to the Android and the Symbian proved correct as Sony has confirmed devices for both operating systems.
Another major rumor that persisted was that the next XPERIA would have a Qualcomm Snapdragon Processor. When the Motorola DROID for the US was announced to be using the Éclair, it further pushed the belief that the X3 would also be using the same operating system. Until a few days ago when Sony formally announced the next XPERIA was the day we all got our facts straight. Despite the heavy disappointment from Android fans, thankfully, the rest of the rumors were true.
The new XPERIA, named the X10; would be powered by the 1 GHz Snapdragon, and though it will be an Android smart phone, it will only use version 1.6 Donut (which leaves the soon to come Motorola Milestone as the only mobile phone in the UK to combine the Elcair with a touch screen and physical keyboard –though it runs at a much slower Arm Cortex processor). Aside from that, Sony Ericsson has also confirmed several other technical specifications regarding the X10. Hopefully, the XPERIA X10’s OS will be upgradeable to version 2.0. That would certainly make a lot of us happier.
