The LG GM750 mobile phone is the first handset from the company to run under the Windows Mobile operating system. As such, we expected there to be a few issues that would need ironing out – this is evident when you first start using the device which, frankly, feels very rough around the edges.
It isn’t all bad however, as the LG GM750 is very well equipped with a number of nice features, as well as a very stylish black rectangular body with a large touch screen display, made popular by the Apple iPhone back in 2007.
The display itself is a respectable 3 inches, below which sits a small trackpad – granted it isn’t particularly useful unless you are browsing the web and need to click on a small link that you cant quite manage with your fingers, but it is still a nice feature to play around with.
The user interface is quite attractive and has a home screen that is, much like the mobile phone’s body, reminiscent of the iPhone. It has plenty of widgets, along with contacts and notifications, although for some reason that we can’t quite comprehend you don’t get any real options in terms of customisation.
The touch screen isn’t great to begin with, and we must warn you that trying to type out anything longer than a 160 character SMS may prove quite trying. When typing I noticed that I needed to repeated slow down from my usual “tap tap tap done” style in order to make sure the phone was keeping up with me, and the resistive touch screen was reacting to each key press. (Many times it was not.)
All in all it is a nice phone if you aren’t a mad texter, but it does need some improvements if it wants to live up to its potential.
