Sony Ericsson W880i Review

Friday, May 25th, 2007

The Sony Ericsson W880i is our pick of the mp3 mobile phones. At only 9.4mm thick it is the thinnest 3g mobile phone on the market and it’s pretty light too weighing in at 71g. The 1 gigabyte memory card gives the user enough space to store 90 of your favourite CD’s, providing you with hours of entertainment whilst you’re on the move. Navigation is done using a 5-way scroll key rather than the traditional joystick, that the Sony Ericsson phones are traditionally famous for. In our opinion this is a good move, as all too often the joystick was liable to break or get clogged with the contents of your pocket. The phone’s casing is stainless steel and is available in 2 colours, black or silver. The W880i has an air of quality about it, its solid casing makes you feel as though you could drop it on a night on and it will live to see another day. This is a 3G phone and as a result does benefit from 3G datastreaming performance. Things like Video-calling, music and Video Streaming are well within this phones capabilities. It’s camera is a bit of a let down at only 2 megapixels, in an ideal world we would have liked to see the K800’s camera fitted for the extra quality shots we have come to expect. Where this phone really excels is in it’s music player. If you are looking for a phone that can also replace your MP3 player, then this phone could quite well be it! The sound quality is second to none and with a decent set of headphones the bass is really punchy. The included set of headphones is perfectly adequate, but you can attach a Bluetooth set should you choose to. Overall this is a tidy little phone and should definitely be considered if you are looking to replace your phone and MP3 player with one unit. Why not compare Sony Ericsson W880i on contract .

LG PRADA KE850

Friday, May 25th, 2007

The company that brought you the LG chocolate is back with an equally stylish offering. The PRADA KE850 utilises the touch screen technology that made the chocolate so popular in the first place. Slightly larger than the chocolate, the KE850 ways in at 85 grams and measures 98.8x54x12mm. The battery life isn’t bad either with a talktime of 3 hoursa and standby closer to the 300 hour mark. Indeed this is the first phone to show the PRADA label and as such the phone oozes a sense of style and quality that you would associate with such a brand name. The features, as you would expect, are no more than average. A 2megapixel camera, MP3 player and bluetooth functionality are about the limit for this little baby, but to be honest you don’t buy a phone like this for its gadgets and appliacations. As far as functionality goes, the LG PRADA is surprisingly easy to use. The entire front of the phone is touch-sensitive with three additional small silver buttons for making a call, ending a call and going back a step. Everything else is done via touch. The menu system is intuitive and easy to use. I had a little difficulty clicking through some of the menu options when my hands got a a little clammy, but other than that I could find everything I needed fairly easily. As far as phones go, this is more of a fashion accessory than a cutting edge piece of technology, but with a label like PRADA on the front we knew that would be the case. I give it a 7/10.
